The SDI Difference

Traditional Internships:

  • Only a few who apply get to participate, age / education restrictions.

  • You focus on their organization and what they need.

  • The goal is to get valuable experience.

  • The hope is you will get a job offer.

  • At least you plan to get a quality recommendation.

  • Some are paid, a lot are not.

  • Demanding on your time.

  • You incur travel expenses.

  • First impressions are critical.

  • Extremely competitive once accepted.

  • Most begin to attempt to secure internships during college or graduate school.

  • One specialized area of focus at a time.

  • Required start dates and pre-determined durations (e.g., 3-6 months), reduces the amounts of students any one internship can serve.

  • Minimal opportunities for 14 to 18 year old’s (and ex-offenders & recovering addicts) to gain valuable experience when they need it the most.

The Self-Discovery Internship:

  • Everyone who wants to gets to participate.

  • You focus on you and what you need.

  • The goal is to get you ready for your best possible future.

  • The hope is you will make the right education / career choice.

  • At least you plan to save time and money into the future by learning what you need to know to make more educated decisions.

  • A minimal fee is paid to take the internship and to acquire the support materials.

  • You work at your own pace, on your own time, from your own home (or in group settings as desired).

  • First impressions are not relevant as this is a developmental internship focused on you.

  • There is no competition between interns.

  • Encouraged to complete the internship in high school, before selecting a college.

  • A series of courses exists to help you build a broad, solid foundation for your future.

  • No required specific start dates.

  • Must be at least 14 years old to participate (ex-offenders & recovering addicts welcome).

  • All participants are able to gain the valuable experience they need when they need it the most.
